ExR CEO Speaks on Computer Security at Medical Conference
Saturday April 26, 2003

"With identity theft the fastest growing crime in the U.S., with the new medical privacy regulations in effect, and with more and more medical information being stored and transferred electronically, medical practices and their affiliates are prime targets for the twenty-first century information pirates."

Thus began Michael Rainer, CEO of ExR, as he addressed the Georgia Medical Group Management Association during their annual meeting at Chateau Elan, Braselton, GA. The topic, "Computer security...I can hack your system. Who else can?" drew on Rainer's 23 years of experience as a technical consultant to small and large companies to help them use computers to manage their businesses and on his focus for the past several years on the growing threats to privacy and security that technology poses.

Rainer's message included information on how to identify threats to medical practices, how to tell if a practice is vulnerable, how to establish core security and privacy policies for a practice, how to recognize and manage a security incident, and how to establish system controls to protect a practice.
